FLV and F4V were go-to formats for many people, because pretty much any computer had Adobe Flash Player browser plugin pre-installed in browsers. Lots of video-hosting websites used these Flash formats as well, some still continue to use it. Flash player, if supported in Catalina, would appear in Safari Preferences → Websites, in the sidebar. Also, you can see a separate entry for it in macOS Preferences. When I first wrote about Shlayer in January 2019, it was posing successfully as a Flash Player update and it seems that the criminals behind the attacks haven’t felt any need to change that. But what they have done is make the disguise even more convincing by somehow duping Apple into approving their code as legitimate.

As of January 1st, 2021 – Adobe has stopped supporting Flash Player.
This wikiHow shows you how to enable Flash Player on in Safari and Chrome for macOS. If you're using Safari, you'll need to download and install Adobe Flash Player from Adobe's website. If you're using Chrome, there's no need to install additional apps. Support for Adobe Flash ends in December 2020. I cannot find it in Safari Preferences Websites Plugins because the Plugins section does not appear. Is there a way to get it to work on Catalina? I feel like Apple released Catalina almost exclusively to prevent anybody from being able to use even this last version of Flash, to avoid any legal action by Adobe.
So what does this mean for Comrex users?
Many of our products were originally designed to run on a browser-based user interface that required Flash to be enabled for reasons that made sense at the time. But we’ve been anticipating the demise of Flash for the last few years and have been preparing for this transition.
We now have a variety of user interface options for you to choose from!
For ACCESS and BRIC-Link users
For users with firmware v4.5p2 and higher, the default user interface is now HTML5-based. Firmware updates are available for free. If you’d like to upgrade your firmware, visit your product’s support page to download the latest version, or use Device Manager.
Alternatively, we have a Windows-based app called Codec Commander. It has all of the capabilities of the built-in, browser-based control page of Comrex codecs – manage your connections, check statistics, view audio metering, adjust audio profiles or change system settings. Codec Commander is available for free – you can download it here.
For users with multiple ACCESS or BRIC-Link units, Fleet Commander is a Windows-based application for controlling your codec fleet. Fleet Commander is available for a list price of $400.00 and can be purchased through any of our audio dealers.

Can I use my Adobe apps in macOS Catalina 10.15?
We've updated most current apps to 64-bit architecture. The following versions work in Catalina, but have these known issues.

Most older Adobe apps were created using 32-bit architecture and do not work in Catalina. We have no plans to update apps that we no longer support or develop. The following table lists some common 32-bit Adobe apps that are not compatible with Catalina. (It is not a comprehensive list of all older 32-bit Adobe apps.)

Uninstall 32-bit apps before upgrading to Catalina
Before you upgrade to Catalina, we recommend that you uninstall your 32-bit Adobe apps. Older uninstallers are also 32-bit apps and don't work in Catalina.
If you already upgraded to Catalina, you can use the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool to uninstall older versions of Creative Cloud apps.
If you've kept Acrobat DC or Creative Cloud apps up to date, they are already 64-bit compliant.
